Homoeopathy For All - October, 2001

Dear Readers,

Depression is a common problem in women. There is an increased incidence of depression to as much as twice that in men. This may not be due to a greater vulnerability but to the particular stresses that many women face. A woman faces different kinds of stresses at different times of life. It begins in adolescent age when roles and expectations change dramatically and then in adulthood when there are increased responsibilities at home and work. Role conflict is also an issue as debate continues regarding whether women need to choose between family and work responsibilities. Hormonal changes also play a significant role in the development of depression in women. But whatever be the cause, we should always remember that melancholy, hopelessness and depression are as important a part of our palette of emotions as are joy, exuberance and pleasure. Short sojourns in any of the darker emotions are quite natural and encourage self-understanding. It is only if those feelings linger that they become problematic. And we have the power to choose peace in our lives, this takes some effort and time but it is infinitely worthwhile.

The Indian systems of medicine and homoeopathy are being rediscovered even in the West. Arogya 2001 is an effort by ITPO and the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and homoeopathy, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India to present the strength of these systems of medicare in India including allopathy.

Thanking you
Dr. Nidhi Luthra
